Girls night out is not something I often do… In fact, I can’t remember the last time I went anywhere without Boo. This was special though and my oldest was home to babysit Boo for me… I had so much fun!!!
My partner in crime was my dear friend Shera Kay! We became friends way back when our oldest boys were little, and in the many, many years since she has become a sister to me…. She is one of the kindest, sweetest souls I am blessed to know and it was awesome to hang out with her for girls night out!
After a fun dinner at a real restaurant (not one that comes with kids meals) and the joy of eating a meal in its entirety without cutting up someones food LOL, we headed over to Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix to see our teenage heartthrobs… Donnie, Jordon, Jonathon , Joey and Danny!!!
I could barely contain my excitement!!! OMG!!! New Kids On The Block!!!!!!
I had every single poster of them covering my entire bedroom wall as a teenager! Mostly Donnie LOL but yep I loved them all… I just knew Donnie was going to swoop in and ask my 15 year old self to run away with him….
As we looked for our seats at the concert we morphed from two 40 somethings into two giggling schoolgirls… Shera Kay spotted a place we could get photos with Boyz II Men ( who were also playing that night) and I swear, I’ve never seen her eyes light up like that LMBO 🙂 Armed with our photos we made our way into the arena and WOW!!! It was so totally awesome as our teenage selves would have said…
Let me just say that the years have not hurt this handsome R&B group… They put on such a great show and Shera Kay and I sang along to all our faves like “Motownphilly” and “End of the Road”… We were having a blast dancing and singing and enjoying the show!
Next up was the beautiful and talented Paula Abdul!!! I have so much respect for this amazing lady… I have followed her career over the years and have found that she is a lady thru and thru. She has class, grace and a kind heart. Not only did I sing my heart out to her songs as a teen, I sing them still as they are all on my IPOD and nothing makes a day better than belting out “Forever Your Girl” or “Straight Up”
Watching her perform was so much fun! She has so much spirit and strength… Positive energy just spills from her to everyone around her! Plus, she is totally adorable. She looks exactly the same as she did in the 1990’s! Paula– if your reading this…. do a girl a favor and email me your secret for looking so fab!!!
After a short break… the lights went back down…. everyone stood up…. watching the stage…. waiting.. waiting… Smoke danced, lights dimmed… and then… the center stage rose up out of the floor and NKOTB was maybe 60 feet from us…. I’ll admit it… One look at this #boyband and I was screaming and swooning like a teenage girl…
What a night!!! First of all, if I was crushing on them when I was a teen–let me tell you, the grown up in me says…. they sure grew up nice… LOL
NKOTB put on a fantastic show and it was obvious how much they truly care about their fans. I have been to many concerts over the years and never seen a performer interact with the audience like NKOTB did. They truly seemed humbled to be there for us and actually went out into the audience several times including the cheap seats to shake hands and give hugs.
You see so many young performers who grow up to attract trouble, but that’s not the case with NKOTB…. They all have level heads and do so much for the community… Donnie stands out to me the most because he and his beautiful wife , Jenny, do so much for the Autism community… Since Boo has Autism, this means so much to me…
Overall, tonight was such a joy for me! Having a chance for girls night out was amazing! Getting to sing along with our teenage heartthrobs?? Priceless.
I’d love to hear from my readers– What was your fave singer or group as a teen?
