Boo and I woke up the first day of our Orlando vacation and could barely contain our excitement!! My oldest son was scheduled to work at Epcot that day, so Boo and I decided to go to Universal Studios. Earlier that week, after many long years of waiting, our acceptance letter to Hogwarts had finally arrived!!
We were so excited it was difficult to eat breakfast…. We ate and dressed in record time and before we knew it we were in line behind some Muggles waiting to board the Knight Bus and transport ourselves to Diagon Alley to prepare ourselves for entering Hogwarts!!!!
We arrived at Universal prepared with wands in hand! Boo showed his excellent skill in magical spells when he had a wand duel with the security guard at the entrance who whipped out his own wand and challenged Boo… Boo was so proud that he was able to cast a freezing spell over the guard and save his mama!!!
We got to Universal early and there were hoards of Muggles waiting to get into the park. As they opened the gate we all spilled inside and Boo grabbed my hand tightly, “Where’s Harry Mama!?! Where’s Harry?” We quickly dipped inside the Despicable Me ride, which was super cute and Boo loved. Soon as we got done with it though he squeezed my hand and said, “Harry Potter Mama!!!”
We asked a kind employee where we could find Diagon Alley and he directed us to head towards London. We knew when we got there…. It felt like being on the streets of London and Boo had great fun playing in one of their signature phone booths… We visited with the Knight Bus driver who kindly showed us the secret entrance to Diagon Alley….. walking into Diagon Alley was truly one of the most magical moments I have been blessed to have with my son…. Suddenly we were immersed within Harry Potter’s world…. Our eyes feasted on everything we imagined when we read the books and saw the movies…. It was real. It was magical. It was a dream come true!
We had the time of our lives gathering supplies in Diagon Alley. From wands to golden snitches, everything from the wizarding world was at our fingertips….
Boo giggled with excitement when we saw HoneyDukes! Just like Ron and Harry, he loaded up on Chocolate Frogs and Exploding Bon Bons!
After all that exploring, we needed to rest a bit and what better spot than The Leaky Cauldron!?! We sat down inside and it truly felt as if Ron, Hermaine and Harry would soon saunter in… Boo was thrilled to order a treat our literary heroes often enjoy… Butterbeer!
This bubbly , magical drink had the look of rootbeer with a thick froth yet smelled distinctly like delicious spices…. I did not get to taste it, as Boo reminded Mama she’s diabetic ( he trys to help mama stay on track) but he LOVED it! He was so thrilled to sit and drink this and we even got him a second one a little while later. 🙂
After our break we explored more of Diagon Alley. Boo was thrilled to see the fire-breathing dragon atop Gringott’s Bank and climb into Hagrid’s motorbike!
We headed out the secret entrance to Diagon Alley back to London to search for King’s Cross Station and board the Hogwart’s Express!! Boarding this train was nothing short of magical! We truly felt we part of the books we have so enjoyed! I can not express the joy and thrill on my little boys face as we magically zoomed along to Hogsmeade en route to HOGWARTS!!!
We exited the station and walked just a bit before the majestic school was before us! Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!!! Boo clutched my hand in excitement! We had ARRIVED!!!! We explored Hogwarts at great length, enjoying every nook and cranny. We marveled at Dumbledore talking to us from his study and giggled to see the sorting hat …. sorting us!
We wandered thru the halls of Hogwarts expecting to see Harry, Ron and Hermaine at any moment…. We left the castle and wandered around Hogsmeade a bit more and explored Dr.Suess Land at Universal before boarding the Hogwarts Express back to London.
Boo looked so happy as he squeezed my hand and said, ” Mama can we please go back to Diagon Alley!” I was only too happy to oblige!
We spent another hour there before heading out of the park and back to our room at Disney… exhausted but happy and ready for our adventure at Disney the next day! Tune in next week to hear about our fab day at the Magic Kingdom!
I’d love to hear from my readers: If you could have one magical power what would it be?
