Just because....

So This Is 40…

Time flies by faster each year….  I was born in the 70’s, a child of the 80’s and I blinked and it was 2017… I’m not really sure where all that time went, but I never really think about my age or worry I’m getting older. I know people who are very concerned of each passing year but I’m just happy to have another one! I have noticed though, that nowadays not everything works the way it use too anymore 🙂

My last eye exam brought me into the reality that , yes, I am getting a wee bit older…. When the doctor told me I needed bifocals this year my first response was , “But…. I’m only 35….” Oh wait…. somewhere along the journey of life I got a little older…

With my years, I have gained invaluable knowledge… such as there is no greater joy than a catnap and no greater feeling than snapping off your bra at the end of the day… I remember back when I was 14 crying tears of despair to my BFF that I would never develop— if i could only turn back the clock and tell my younger self to enjoy being free of those pesky things….

This past week I joined a walking club in my neighborhood. I took Boo, my youngest son, with me. He was so excited and so was I. We walked with our neighbors and  had a great time walking and chatting. We only walked an hour but when we got home I collapsed exhausted on the couch. My feet were burning and I physically felt 42 for the first time.  Boo of course was just full of energy and smiles.  As I looked at him I smiled back and realized that maybe I shouldn’t have to feel this way at my age and the more we do this walk, the easier it will get…

I don't sweat, I sparkle...
I don’t sweat, I sparkle…

I have Fibromyalgia so I tend to have aches and pains. I was feeling just a little sore from my walk and I thought, wrongly, that Icy Hot would be a great help for this…. I was beyond wrong. I was extremely wrong…. After my shower, I had the bright idea to put on Icy Hot before I dressed. My knee was tender—Icy Hot. My hip was a little sore–Icy Hot. Whats that? Other knee hurting? Icy Hot. Then, without washing my hands, I proceeded to get dressed. Let me just tell you, never ever pick up your underwear and put them on when you have Icy Hot on your hands. EVER! I hopped around my room like a lost cause… Each step plunged me into a HOT or COLD torture… In desperation, I flung off my clothes and jumped back in the shower. Big mistake. BIG.  Eventually though , the Icy Hot decided to stop torturing me and I felt halfway normal.

So, if this is the entry to my 40’s, I’m ready for it! I’ll just leave the Icy Hot alone… 🙂 I’d love to hear from my readers– was there an incident or realization for you that time is happily marching on?

Today is a good day!

  1. Oh my Icy Hot! I’ve never tried it, but I will retain the underwear tip forever! I only have a few years left in my 30’s. But, looking around 40 looks good on a lot of my pals. Plus, it’s better than the alternative right? Fun read!

    1. Thanks Kelli! Ha-Ha, yes it’s better than the alternative 🙂

  2. The Icyhot story made me laugh…Been there done that! LOL! I am closing in on 50 and know what you mean about ‘feeling’ your age sometimes.

This was a great post. I have so many questions! The Doctors were thinking I may also have fibromyalgia, but they cannot decide. My bloodwork isn’t telling them anything. I would love to know your journey to diagnosis.

    1. Jim I am happy to share my journey with you… I am sending you a message…

  5. Im turing the big 4-0 in a few weeks! time really does fly! Werent we just in HS????

    1. Hi Harmony! It does seem we were just in HS doesn’t it 🙂

  6. You know, that is not the first IcyHot horror story I’ve heard! I’m not sure we have it in Canada, I think our equivalent is A535.
But besides that, I also don’t really notice my age. And you probably hate me for saying that because I’m so “young” (late twenties) but I honestly do not know how old I am. It just isn’t important to me. And I hope it stays that way!

    1. Ha ha Jaclyn! I forgot my age all the time even in my 20’s 🙂

  7. This was definitely a good laugh! I’m excited to read more about your journey!

    1. Thank you Dana!!! 🙂

  8. Thanks for a good laugh! I will definitely remember your post every time I use Icy Hot going forward lol
I have so many things I want to tell my younger self if I could go back – especially like you said, enjoy the moment 🙂

    1. Hi Briana I’m glad you had a good laugh! 🙂

  9. Gosh I am a few short years from 40 and it feels like I’m still in my 20’s mentally. I have no idea how I just keep getting older but at the same time time stands still. Its very perplexing, thank you for making me think about it hahah!

  10. This post reminds me of my younger self, wishing time would go by faster so I could be 18 years old and have more freedom. Now that I`m 19, even if it`s still relatively young, makes me wistful at how much I could`ve valued my childhood more. It makes me realize that we should really be content where we are at life and make the most out of what we have.

  11. I broke my back when I was 26, so in some ways I have physically felt old since then (I’m 45 now). But, I have the sense of humor of a 12-year-old boy, so that make up for it 😉

  12. Haha. The icy hot is some scary stuff. I can only imagine. And I told you that you would regret those pesky suckers once they came. Rofl

    1. Haha!!!! Yes you did 🙂

  13. That icy hot description was a riot! It reminds me of the time I cut up jalapeno peppers and forgot to wash my hands afterwards. I later proceeded to put in my contacts. It was an eye-opener, eye-closer, eye-opener, eye-squinter, for sure!

    1. Helena… I’m making Pico De Gallo this afternoon… I will be super careful now 😉

  14. I’m 36 and icy hot has been my friend since I was 25. I’m not really sure what that says about me, but hey, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do 🙂

  15. I will be the big 3-0 this year…I feel you!

  16. This story made me laugh… I have to admit I love IcyHot – I hurt everywhere and it does a nice job keeping my aches and pains away. Ha!

    1. Hi Corey! I’m glad I brought you laughter 🙂 Icy Hot sure is a lifesaver…. when I remember not to get it near areas not meant for LOL!!!
