5 Reasons To Love The Central Coast

I have lived in Arizona for over half my life now. I moved here when I was 18 to go to school and just never left. I had my children here, I built a good life…but the pull of my hometown has never left my heart… I think our hometowns become part of our soul, the essence of who we are… the one true love of our life…

I grew up on the Central Coast of California in a small area known as 5-Cities. Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Shell Beach and Oceano. Blink when driving thru and you will miss them. Literally maybe 10 min from one end to the other… When I am driving up the coast to home, my heart fills with anticipation for my town as I approach it. Cruising up the 101 north, when i hit that bend in the road that enters Arroyo Grande I feel so much peace. Being in my hometown feeds something in my soul and brings me happiness…

This area is such a small lovely coastal town with so many wonderful things to do and see… These are a few of my favorites:

1)  Nothing beats walking down Pismo Beach wrapped in a sweatshirt looking for seashells as the sunrises over the shimmering Pacific… This is my all time favorite thing to do in my hometown…. Walking along the edge of the water…. Letting my toes dig into the sand…. This is my bliss….

2) Eating Breakfast at FatCats in Port San Luis is a religious experience… Seriously they have the best breakfasts I have ever eaten in my entire life! I take my kids here every chance I get and they always, always remember us! The food is so comforting and the view…. oh the view…. where else can you  have breakfast looking out upon the beauty of the Pacific dotted with lovely little sailboats???

3) When I was a kid, Garlands Hamburgers was my culinary vice…. I could have eaten them everyday and never had enough! As an adult this is one of my must have stops with my kiddos every trip home! I can’t explain it… just that no other burger on earth will ever compare to one from Garlands… **FYI the ultimate way to eat these are sitting on the beach, toes dug into the sand, and that beautiful California sunshine warming your heart…

4) When on the Central Coast, a quick trip up the coast ( about 40 min give or take) to Morro Bay is always a pleasant experience! Morro Bay is simply the essence of small coastal town…  It looks exactly like something you would see in a movie and is a delightful, relaxing experience. From feeding the seals, to finding fresh homemade salt water taffy, to admiring the majestic scene of Morro Rock, Morro Bay has something for everyone…

5) Dinner at McClintocks has to be one of my all time fave places to eat… Located in Shell Beach on a hillside overlooking the sparkling blue water of the Pacific, this place has been my go to place since I was  knee-high to a grasshopper (as my grandpa would say) Its rustic and homey. The food is oh so good….. although in all honesty all i ever really order is the ribs… oh their ribs!!! Heaven on earth they are…

I could go on and on with reasons I love my hometown but these are a few of my favorites… I recently spent 9 days in my hometown and as you can tell, my heart swells with love for it. I hope I have inspired you to find the things you love most about your hometowns and maybe someday I will see you walking down the beach, looking for shells , enjoying the beauty of the Central Coast…
