Growing up in a small town, I loved the small town atmosphere and the quaintness of our little coastal town. At 18 I moved to Phoenix— what I considered to be the BIG CITY… I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the city I was now living in. Truth be told, 24 years later I’m still in awe of the buildings and layout when I go downtown. For a girl that hails from somewhere 2-story buildings are the tallest thing around, looking straight up at a sea of skyscrapers still feels like a novelty.
I have now lived here over half my life and I could not imagine ever returning to small town life. I still adore my home town and nothing is better than going “home” to stay with my parents for a bit and breath in that fresh ocean air. Living there permanently could prove to be hard… I’m so used to a city now and I love all that it has to offer. One thing I love most of all about being in a large city is the abundance of museums. I could take Boo to a different museum every week of the year and still not have seen them all.
Yesterday we were blessed to visit a brand new aquarium not too far from us. OdySea Aquarium! It was amazing! Boo was delighted with the massive fish bowls hanging overhead in the lobby and was in awe that sharks swam right by him in the bathroom! The aquarium opened this past week and much is still under construction, but that did not hinder us having a fantastic time! Everything from the touch tide pool to the penguin exhibit had him smiling from ear to ear. When I left the coast to move here, I never in a million years thought I’d see a shark here in the desert LOL but yesterday Boo was beyond thrilled to look upon several right here in our own backyard….
For my local readers, I highly recommend coming here with your families. It was a fun, relaxing and air-conditioned adventure! Here in the Valley of the Sun, air-conditioned adventures are the only kind to have in the summer… I would love to hear from everyone—what was your favorite adventure spot this summer?
